Internet ContinuedCurrent LectureI. Benny Smith1.) He has been working in radio for 32 years now.2.) He seems to be a very strong advocate for getting REAL world experience before entering the work force.3.) Radio is more important than just playing songs. It is important to the entire community by communicating football, news such as fires, etc.4.) WUTK is not funded by the University of Tennessee. It is the only lab that is not funded by the university. It isn’t fair, however it is advantageous for the students because you get to actually work at a real business that must stay afloat. 5.) Mike Keith is a prominent alumnus that worked at WUTK.6.) The station has a news, sports and music departments. And many more!7.) Midnight Voyage is an EDM booking company that began in WUTK. It is arguably one of the most successful EDM booking companies in the country. 8.) How do you get involved? P105 and P103 Andy Holt Tower is where the station is located. You can get involved in many different ways, to get your practical experience. You can volunteer at the station during the holidays. Also, you can send in an application for a more permanent position. 9.) Last 9 years WUTK was voted the best radio station in the area!10.) Named one of the top 20 college radio stations in the country!11.) Through the WUTK website, anyone can listen to the live broadcast around the world.These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.12.) SUPER ADVOCATE FOR PRATICAL EXPERIENCE13.) WUTK does 3 different TV shows as well. All on UT TV. 14.) It’s important to WUTK to support the UT community and the entire Knoxville community. They are involved with many non-profit organizations.15.) Radio is VERY personal! However, radio listenership has been going down because corporate ownership has been interfering with all the small radio stations. They just give a cookie cutter format for all the stations. No matter where you go it all sounds the same. The local flavor is all gone! *Radio is dying because the local attachment is gone.*II. Internet Continued1.) Tim Berners Lee: Works with a organization to try and keep world wide web open andfree. He also invented URLs, HTTP, and HTML.2.) Terms to know:- URL: Uniform Resource Locator: address that you type in to go to a website. www.google.com- HTML: Hyper Text Markup Language: Code in which web pages are written. - HTTP: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol: The way that computers and servers communicate and share information over the world wide web. - CMS: Content Management system: Publish on the world wide web without having code or any sort of special software. Facebook, Twitter, etc - ISP: Internet Service Provider: how you get your internet service. Phone company, cable company, ect.- SEO: Search Engine Optimization: Putting together a web page that makes it easier for search engines to find you. - Cloud Computing: a way of storing information that is not stored on your hard drive. It’s stored on some server elsewhere. - Wireless Networking: Wi Fi: - Platform Specific: the web is not platform specific. 3.) Internet Trends- Blogs: Web log- Citizen Journalists: Put news online but you are not associated with any news organization. Can be as simple as posting a picture of a car crash on twitter.- Link Journalism: Do a story about a story. Include a link to the orginal story. 4.)
