INST 210 1st Edition Lecture 20 Outline of Last Lecture I. 13 categories in IDEA,II. discussionOutline of Current Lecture I. alternative and augmentative communication (AAC),II. Applied behavior analysis,III. Discussion,IV. Some supportsCurrent LectureI. alternative and augmentative communication (AAC)a. Mild, moderate, and severe autism spectrum. Asperger's is no longer diagnosed. b. Unaided-- rely on the person's body to convey messages (sign language)c. Aided --require the use of tools in addition. (dynavox, paper and pencil, PECS system- picture exchange communication system)II. Applied behavior analysisa. ABA therapy-- behavior principles to certain settings to reinforce behaviors. Reinforcement can predict a behavior occurring again. Punishment can help correct a behavior, decrease the frequency of a behavior.b. How could you include Tait in the general education classroom? (while decreasing his outburst behaviors) --giving him one-on-one time, using a visual system of rewards.IV. Some supports:a. Visual timers (time timer)b. First/Then schedule (fist you do 10 problems of math, then you get 5 minutes on the iPad)c. Token economy-- you can apply these to so many things. 5 tokens is a good place to startThese notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute.d. Be informed about autism!! There is a lot of false information available that is not
