Goals & Learning Objectives: The overall goal of this class is to introduce you to the discipline of statistics as a science of understanding and analyzing data and not as a branch of mathematics. This class is de-signed to provide you with the tools you need for solving real world problems using stat-istics and a better understanding of the process of scientific research and statistical infer-ence. Required Text: Intro Stats by De Veaux, R. D., Velleman, P.F., and Bock D.E. You may download it for free at http://cran.stat.ucla.edu/.You are required to have a calculator and to bring it to every lecture and discussion, quizzes and exams. No extra calculators will be supplied during exams. Policies:1. If you cannot make to the midterm and/or final exam, you are advised to drop the course or take one scheduled on a different day.2. You need to bring a valid form of picture ID on scheduled days of exams. You will not be allowed to take the final exam without one.3. There are no make up for any homework/lab/quiz/exam. All assignments are due at the beginning of the lecture (by 7:15PM) on the scheduled due day. Your assignments must be stapled, legible, and contain your name.4. The use of any other electronic devices is strictly banned and if you will be reported for cheating if caught for using them during exams. Please turn off all your electronic devices during exams.Grading:Course grades will be based on the following: Homework/Lab (14%) – Each homework is 2.5%.
