Blood brain barrierCurrent LectureConservatives estimates suggest at least eleven percent of all newborns in US today were exposed in the womb to one or more illicit drugs. Numbers even high in urban areas. Neonatal intensive care unit the issue of newborns go through withdrawal symptom and they are mostly premature, they use rockers to help them handle the withdrawal symptomIn the mid-1980s, according to famous people said that “Crack is whack”. There is some effect on cocaine used, but the issue is not as bad as the media makes it is seem. That does not meant it is okay to use cocaine while pregnant, but that the issue is not as great as the media reflects of it. There is conflict between media and reality. Physical and psychological problems are more likely caused by cigarettes, drinking, or simplypoverty. Other; malnutrition, STD’s, premature birth, and other. During development the crack babies have These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a substitute. BIOL 3303 1st Editionproblem with cognitive process when they reach the adolescent stage of the growth. The development of these babies can have defects, but there are several factors that coming into place. Another issue is fetal alcohol syndrome, is a far greater issue than crack babies. One because there more that drink alcohol while pregnant. The greatest issue is that the women drinks alcohol, but it is a choice that a woman makes while pregnant. Some women that do drink while they are pregnant don’t realize they are pregnant and drink during the time. Third trimester, everything is formed but premature birth is the concern there, the nervous system can be altered during the third trimester, along the way. Cells become differentiate, early on can change the physical properties. There are some things that doctors recommend is to leave the drug but slowly, especially if they are addicted and depending of the drug. If they drink alcohol used be off at all time and as fast as possible. There are psychological issue, like pregnant smokers, as soon as they know they are pregnant they tend to stop smoking. There are cases were women drink a glass of wine or alcohol, but they should still try to avoid drinking it at all times. There is a science behind the issue of fetal alcohol syndrome. According to a study, the talk about the high incidence rate here in the United States than in Europe, about twenty times higher. There factor that come into place, such as cultural values, is more of a daily thing than a drug to binge on. There is still a common relation and probably higher issue of alcohol use. Other factors related to the high number is the socioeconomic background, not much of a racial background issue. The main reason that could lead to this high number is the health access information, most women who are in poverty don’t have that information of drug use and effects than that of in Europe. For chapter 3, we will focus more on the basic anatomy and physiology of the nervous system, don’t worry about the different ways to take in a drug, worry about the anatomy of the nervous system, more factual. There are support cells the purpose is to hold the structure of the nervous system and housekeeping duties around the neuron cells. Now, there has been research that they can synthesize pro-inflammatory cells, oxygen radicals related to Alzheimer’s disease, they play a role on the nervous system and the disruption of it. They provide a protective barrier around the axon, the myelin sheath, it is very important for conduction signals across the axon to another axon or cell receptors. Keep in mind, the theses neurons and support cell have the same structure such as organelles like a muscle cell, but there do have different part of the cell that differentiate with another cell. The cell membrane is important to understand, only lipid soluble particle, the blood brain barrier is composed of lipid bilayer, important to keep in mind when it related to a lipid soluble drug. These lipid bilayer is semi-permeable meaning some drugs like lipids soluble can pass right through the layer and alter the brain. Drugs like THC is fat soluble can alter your brain functions. These notes represent a detailed interpretation of the professor’s lecture. GradeBuddy is best used as a supplement to your own notes, not as a
