Publication Manual, 5th Edition.PREREQUISITEPREREQUISITEEDP/EPE 557 or equivalent.COURSE DESCRIPTIONCOURSE DESCRIPTIONThis course is designed to provide an introduction to research methods acceptable to education; the scientificmethod, research designs, measurement techniques, statistical analysis, and writing the research report.General goals of this course include: an understanding of the concepts, terms, and symbols used to describeresearch methodology; an understanding of various research designs and methods; the ability to read,understand, and critique research articles and reports; the ability to present research in a variety of forms. SUBMISSION OF ASSIGNMENTSSUBMISSION OF ASSIGNMENTSAll work is due as indicated in class. Work is due at the beginning of class, and no late work will beaccepted, besides in excused (instructor approved) circumstances.COURSE ASSIGNMENTSCOURSE ASSIGNMENTSDetailed instructions are provided prior to the assignment; rubrics are also available via the web site.1. Reading Journal: Complete weekly class questions or group tasks, compile over the term and submit.2. Peer Reviews: Complete the rubric, along with comments, for a peer’s assignment. This is to be done forthe annotated bibliography and prospectus.3. Annotated bibliography: Create a list of books, articles and documents for a pre-approved researchtopic of your choice. Provide a brief descriptive and evaluative paragraph for each citation to inform thereader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.4. Research Philosophy/Paradigm: 1 page summary of your research philosophy/paradigm.5. Prospectus: Write a plan or research design (for your pre-approved topic). 2 – 3 pages single spaced.6. Article Critique: Complete an article critique of the assigned article by answering specific questions.7. Poster Presentation: Create a poster display (based on your prospectus).8. Article Critique Revisions: Corrections to article critique (submit original and corrected).ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATIONATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATIONYou are expected to come to class, on-time, complete reading assignments, and participate in all activitiesand discussions. See S.R. 5.2.4.2 for a list of excused absences.
