This sequence is designed for first year Ph.D. students in economics, and serves to meetthe departmental Ph.D. statistics and econometrics requirements. After completion of 709–710, stu-dents may wish to enroll in Economics 715–716 (a two se mes ter sequence in econometric theory andmethods) and/or in Economics 717 or 719 (one semester courses emphasizing applications). Pre-requisites include a one semester course in statistical inference with calculus emphasis, a one yearcourse in calculus, and a one semester course in linear algebra. Grading is based on weekly homeworkassignments (10%), a midterm in-class examination (40%), and a final examination (50%).textThe required text is A Course in Econometrics by Art Goldberger, 1991. It should beavailable from the university bookstore.
