If a student is receiving special education services, legally can they fail a class? No, because that means if they are failing then the correct supports are not being provided. Special education kids shouldn’t fail because we're supposed to be tailoring their education to them. b. What are some of the social ramifications for Scott staying in a class he cannot keep up in or going to an employment class for students graduating with an alternative diploma? A. Many other students who are not in sped may not understand why he isnt on the tem anymore, which could cause him to have many friends misunderstand or judge him. He may not like moving to the employment skills class. B. How many attempts should teachers make to adapt the curriculum before seeking alternative placement for students? Very subjective. Very important to have lots of data and make notes of what the teacher has tried. That way when you update the IEP it is easier to realize what the student might need. Don’t take away from the other students. C. What role should Scott and his parents have in deciding his placement? Important to listen to the family because there are many factors that would let him be able to do so.D. What if Scott just needs specific one-on-one instruction for geometry?II.
