Weld a root pass with E6010 & a hot pass with E7018 on an open root, single V groove butt joint using 3/8” steel plate in the flat, horizontal, vertical & overhead positions. 2. Prepare pipe for pipe-to-plate welding by using various shop equipment. 3. Weld single pass pipe to plate joints in the 2F, 5F, and 4Fpositions using the shielded metal arc electrode. 4. Weld multiple pass pipe to plate joints in the 2F, 5F, and 4F positions using the shielded metal arc electrode. 5. Evaluate the finished weld to determine if it meets industry standards with the instructor.TOPICAL UNIT OUTLINE/UNIT OBJECTIVES:1. Prepare all plate and pipe for welding by using available shop equipment.2. Set up joints for shielded metal arc welding in the 2F, 5F, and 4F positions.3. Deposit root passes using E6010 electrodes.4. Deposit multiple pass welds using E7018 electrodes.5. Practice as required until welds illustrate comprehension of process being studied.6. Evaluate completed welds for acceptability.7. Discuss completed work with your instructor.
