Debord and Godard:Current Lecture:Externalization & Colonization: Imperialism takes the form of culture, and the land that it takes becomes the land of our organs. Crary: Sleep is the one escape from colonization; because of this global capitalism we have lost (i) everyday life (ii) time for private reflection – answers demands of citizenship, what it means to be a member of society. Social as opposed to narcissistic. (iii) Any Relation to otherness. Jameson: Cultural dominant – a pervasive world from which no one is exempt. Characterized by economic interest, human activity, art, and the loss of art’s semi-autonomy. Once upon a time, art had own special place in society with freedom and margin, Crary and Jameson agree this no longer is a space for art.
