In 2013 88% had HS degrees or GED and only 32% had 4 year college degree or moree. Power: ability to be able to influence someone’s behaviori. The media is typically run by the upper class. They focus on poverty as a statistic, not on the actual stories. We, the public, become desensitized to poverty because we simply think of it as a number.III. Myths from the Media:a. People in poverty or the working poor class are there because of their own faultsb. When poverty is talking about, we focus on the problems it will/may create for the middle classc. The poor are painted in a negative light whereas if a wealthy person does the same thing, we view it as a “mistake” or a rareityi. Ex. If Lindsay Lohan steals and does drugs, we say she is going through a wild phase and has made mistakesii. If someone in poverty steals or does drugs we label them as a bad person who does so because they are in poverty or poord. The media paints poverty as a temporary
