Leadership Is about distinguishing right from wrong and doing right seeking the just the honest the good and the right conducted in achieving goals and attaining your VISION Unethical Leadership Leader sets the tone Selfish greed 82 of CEOs said they lied about their golf scores Disrespect others Take credit for successes but blame others for failures Do not speak up when things are wrong How to Act Like a Moral Leader 1 Develop articulate and uphold high moral principles 2 Focus on what is right for the organization as well as all the people involved 3 Set the example you want others to when no one is looking There are 3 Levels of Personal Moral Development Level 1 is Preconventional Follow rules Blind obedience to authority children Level2 is Conventional Lives up to expectations of others Upholds law Adults Level 3 is Post conventional do things without being asked Follows internal principles Balances concern for both oneself and others Continuum of Leader Follower Relationship Control Centered in the Leader Stage 1 CONTROL Authoritarian leader with Obedient subordinates Stage 2 PARTICIPATION Participative leader with team players Stage 3 EMPOWERMENT Stewardship leader with self responsible employees Stage 4 SERVICE Servant leader with whole employees Control Centered in the Followers Stewardship Leader becomes part of the team A belief that leaders are deeply accountable to others as well as to the organization without trying to control others define meaning and purpose for others or take care of others Leaders at the bottom of the Org Chart Lecture 10 September 19 Servant Leadership leader can back away Self managed work team There for back up and to help when needed Leadership in which the leader transcends self interest to serve the needs of
