The labs will have comprehensive worksheets posted to Blackboard. You are expected to print a copy for each lab and have it in lab. Welcome: This lab is geared for non-science majors and compliments as well as sometimes expands upon lecture work. To the extent possible, lab work will be presented in conjunction with lecture material.Typically labs will begin with administrative comments if any, topic lecture, explanation of the lab work, doing the lab, and finally, a review of your work for correctness prior to your leaving. Labs are scheduled for 2 hours and for the most part, will take the full time to complete. For the Animal Lab, you will be dissecting (with a partner) a starfish, crayfish, and a frog. It is required work. There are no workarounds for this lab. Attendance: Please attend your scheduled lab section. Space is limited so you cannot move around to other sections. You are expected to not only attend all labs but be on time. Attendance is taken at the start by signing in. If you know you cannot make a lab, e.g. a scheduled medical or court appointment, please speak with me. If you miss a lab, I will excuse you from attendance, if you have a valid writtenexcuse. However you are responsible for the work presented/missed in order to be prepared for any subsequent quiz or test.If you miss more than 1working lab for any reason, we reserve the right to drop you from the course with the grade of F. If you miss either of the 2 major lab testsfor any reason, you will receive an F for the course!Grading: The work accomplished in lab will constitute 25 % of your final course grade. As the grade is part of your final course grade, we do not curve the lab gradeor any lab test/quiz given. The majority of graded lab work will be done online through the Mastering Biology website. Lab quizzes will open on Monday morning and close Sunday at 11:59pm. If you DO NOT finish the work by the assigned date/time you WILL NOT be able to have extra time to complete the assignment. We do not give makeup work, labs, test, or quizzes. Miss one, and you will receivea zero unless we receive an acceptable written excuse from you, e.g. doctor’s note, accident report, etc.Grading points for lab will total 385 consisting of 2 tests worth 100 points each, quizzes totaling 85 points, an ecology presentation worth 50 points, and 50 subjective points.
