organization how it operates In a sense the course topics listed below as well as both the diversity of guest lectures and student presentations spell this course objective in more detail Future leaders of organizations who take this course will introspective explore self leadership leading yourself leadership leading others and super leadership leading others to lead themselves Text Steven B Sample s The Contrarian s Guide to Leadership Jossey Bass 2002 Supplemental materials used in class taken from such classics as Chester Barnard s Functions of the Executive Harvard University Press 1938 Niccolo Machiavelli s The Prince first printed in 1532 Others The Legacy of the Teacher who Happened to be President a collection of examples anecdotes and stories paying tribute to the 14th President of Virginia Tech Paul E Torgersen This is a variation of a Flipped Course Rather than be lectured to for 50 minutes students are expected to prepare for in class engagement activities by reading and or watching online video lectures before class periods Periodic video lectures delivered recently by Dr Torgersen and other video material will be experienced outside of class while in class engagement will consist of short vignettes cases and examples of the material learned at home 15 min with play action passes for points using LectureTools Following President Torgersen s lead as join 3 4 others to make a movie Media elements can include video audio animation stills or any of the other forms of non physical media you can use to present your topic While your team will have a 15 minute time slot on presentation day 3 Page your digital presentation should be approximately 5 minutes The remaining time is for you to engage your audience including opportunity for play action points Your team of 4 5 should include a Manager UX Manager Media Designer Sub contractor s Include actual cases or examples to illustrate your topic Include 4 evaluation points in Lecture Tools Innovation Space on the first floor of Torgersen is your course lab for digital presentations They loan out equipment provide studio time hold classes and provide consultation Check out their website
