You see the stimuli 2. You automatically read the stimulus and you id the color of the stimuli 3. You need to say “red” but the response conflicts with the word you read automatically4. Saying red requires you to inhibit the automatically process of reading a. Which causes you to name colors slower Clicker questions Will someone who’s drunk preform the Stroop task better or worse? Better: you have a harder time The Stroop effect is totally relevant to life situations Study done on Russian words: In the cold war the CIA is said to have used the Stroop effect to see if there were spies who had secret knowledge of the Russian lang. Relevance  Devin Hester o In the NFL #20 – 49 are worn by running backs, corner backs and safeties o Devin was originally drafted as a cornerback and return specialist  He was switched to wide receiver and his score went down due to the Stroop effect.  Because of that fact that he was continuously conditioned not to throw to certain numbers. Those numbers switched when he switched
