Lab 4 Pinoccio Elisabeth Qualls Samantha Peeler Experimental procedure For part A we started with our spring on the stand and lightly added the starting weight to the spring We let the weight fall to the equilibrium length where the spring stays stretched without oscillating at all Once it stopped all oscillation we measured the stretched length in cm Between each measurement we added a bit of oscillation to the spring and re stabilized it to get valid measurements We repeated this process 6 extra times for each weight before adding the next weight We measured 6 times for each weight because it got the SE Avg below five percent We then added each weight to the mass hanger and measured the length the same way once the spring was stable We added 5 different weights to the original We measured the added weight and mass hangers weight together and recorded in g to the nearest 0 01 With these measurements the linear curve of the graph does a good job representing the relationship between the hanging mass and the stretch It represents well how the spring stretches more when more weight is added For part B we decided to let the weight oscillate 10 times to decrease the amount of human error that was allowed To make sure we were starting the weight s oscillation at the same point each time we pulled the weight down ten cm from its equilibrium stretch each time This process allowed for the most accurate measurements One partner released the weight from the stretched position and the other times the oscillations We measured each weight 6 times because it got the SE Avg below five percent The linear curve of the graph for this part does generally a good job representing the relationship between the total hanging mass and the period of the oscillations The curve helps represent how the oscillation period becomes longer the higher amount of weight is added which makes logical sense because the spring is stretching more and taking longer to oscillate To be best fit though a curved line would best fit this relationship Results Part A graph Part A data Part B graph Part B data
