course is to introduce you to many of the concepts and skills an engineer in indoor environmental and energy engineering may encounter Objectives of this course include 1 Develop a fundamental knowledge of indoor environmental engineering practices 2 Develop basic measurement techniques and uncertainty analysis 3 Improve and practice technical writing skills Required text ME 4131W Indoor 5th ed 2020 available free online through UMN library Grading distribution Grades are assessed on an A F scale in accordance with the University of Minnesota s grading definitions Students can monitor their current standing in the class by reviewing their grades on Canvas At the end of the course the instructor may lower the grade cutoff scores if necessary Instructors have the responsibility and authority to determine how final grades are assigned including in classes where they use numeric scores the method that will be used to translate numeric scores into letter grades https policy umn edu education gradingtranscripts The distribution of the final grade for the course is as follows 2 reports rewrites 8 executive summaries Class participation pre lab quizzes Total 40 20 each 50 6 25 each 5 5 100 Rewrites As part of the requirement for this course you will be rewriting the lab reports that you complete for this course There are no rewrites for the executive summaries The purpose of this exercise is to improve your writing skills based on feedback from your instructor and TA The original report draft and the rewritten final report will together have the same weight as a single lab report of the respective type with each version contributing to the final report grade The breakdowns are as shown below Report Original report Final report 20 of the total grade 1 2 of the report grade 1 2 of the report grade Report submission and due dates Reports and data sheets are due the week after the completion of the lab no later than 11 59 pm the evening before the next lab meeting Reports datasheets need to be submitted electronically through Gradescope The following table shows the due dates and penalties for all reports NOTE FOLLOW THIS TABLE and not the Due Date shown on Conduct Attendance To pass the course it is required to attend lab and lecture If you are not able to attend a lab section you must make arrangements with your TA ahead of time Unexcused absences from
