SCM 200 Chi Square Review Sheet Chi Square Contingency Table Test for Independence pp 201 206 In regression the Y variable had to be quantitative If we want to test for a relationship between two qualitative variables we need a new test We use the Chi Square Test In regression we visualized our data with a scatterplot With two qualitative variables we visualize the data with a contingency table Be able to state the two qualitative variables by looking at a contingency table Hint don t confuse the two qualitative variables with the row and column headings If the column heads were Democrat Republican and Independent and the row headings were Male and Female the two qualitative variables would be Political Party and Gender Be able to state the null and alternative hypotheses in words in general terms Also be able to state the null and alternative hypotheses in words in context of the problem For example testing for a relationship between Political Party and Gender You will not have to compute a Chi Square statistic or read a Chi Square table I will give you the Chi Square statistic and p value in the output Know the relationship between the Chi Square statistic and the p value In other words as the Chi Square statistic gets larger what happens to the p value Be able to use the decision rule to make a decision about the relationship of the two variables
