Describe the as is state of the room that is how is it organized to help you accomplish your desired task Identify a couple of improvement opportunities The as is state of my room includes a dresser with clothes to get dressed a bed to sleep in a bathroom to shower Applying the 5S methodology select one area maybe a drawer a desk top a closet or a countertop to organize Describe how you would apply each of the Ss closet Sort What can you remove or move to a more convenient spot I would remove all winter jackets and boots for the summer months Simplify Can you put any tools in place to improve functionality Can you add a tray for putting things away Is there something you can throw out I would add hooks on mu racks so I could hang my jeans and pants using the belt loops Sweep What can you do to make the daily cleaning and straightening of this area happen How can you make it easy and obvious when cleaning is needed I would have a criteria where if any clothes were not hung up then I would know it isn t cleaned Standardize Can you do something similar in another drawer or closet I would use this same system to swap my winter clothes for my summer clothes when the time comes Shine How will you maintain this system over time Can you expand it Can you commit roommates and family members to join the 5S movement I think I could expand this system to my other house members If they saw how clean my closet stayed then they would realize the system is efficient Why is the 5S methodology applicable to daily living at home This is applicable to living at home because sorting and maintaining different areas is necessary for daily living People use systems strategies charts and other techniques to keep up with daily or weekly tasks
