Running head FAVORITE BOOK SHARE 1 Favorite Book Share Name Children s Literature RDG 350 FAVORITE BOOK SHARE 2 Favorite Book Share My favorite book series as a child was The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum I loved the way my mother read it to me and I remember thinking how brave Dorothy was while I always imagined I could be her I liked the idea of a young girl discovering a whole new world on her own with only her dog a scarecrow a lion and a tin woodsman I always thought the tin woodsman was mean because he killed animals I don t really remember if he had a reason to kill those animals or not The witch was scary and personifies my idea of a witch to this very day I remember the flying monkeys as nice creatures but they still scared me This series becamemore real to me than the usual fairy tale books my mom read to me such as Cinderella Snow White and Sleeping Beauty and I remember how excited I was to watch the movie every October Early on I noticed the differences between the book and movie In the movie Dorothy was not a child at all and her slippers were red not the silver I had ingrained in my head The Tinman was very kind and did not kill one small animal and the flying monkeys were not very nice Seeing the book I loved so much come to life on television is one of my favorite childhood memories however the older I get the more I realize my imagination stopped when I saw the movie and MGM Studio s imagination took over While I love the movie The Wizard of Oz and love watching it with my own children there is a part of me that wishes I had only read the books and that my imagination could run away again with the characters of this incredible story
