Babble; 2nd half of piece; music by Philip glass and lecture by Carl Sagan; ‘think about yourself, who you are and what defines you, chances are you’re work defines you, your everyday task, what if you were no longer able to do, would your hands become dust? So what are we more than dust?’4. Utopia- choreographer Mary Clemens; not guided by a storyline but influenced by movement for thesake of movement- dynamics, distribution of weight, variations of high and low; music by Mercoff;5. Ren- choreographer Raya Huse; hip-hop piece; male dancer broke his arm; ‘ren’ means ‘the people’ in Chinese; “the world is dangerous because the people don’t do anything about the evil people” quote by Albert Einstein6. Love in progress- choreographed by Camille sellers; only piece with live music composed and createdfor her dance- live on cello7. Take the leap- contemporary dance; solo and then 20+ dancers for finale - Ballet Stars of New York (Friday night concert)o 5 NYC principal dancers join USC dancers and local male dancers not at USCo Leading dancer- Sarah Murnes, went to USCo All works from George Balanchine1. Arregril Brilliaunt- very elegant swirling dance; ‘arregril’ means fast; packed full of stuff- turns, show-off steps2. Diamonds- pas de deu (dance for 2); a thank you for his background at Russian imperial ballet; part of the dance ‘jewels’3. Tarantella- also a pas de deu (dance for 2); showcases great showmanship, sense of humor and Neapolitan flair4. Stars and stripes- ballet thank you to America; patriotic; containing as much pure dancing as many full length classical
