Traditionally picture books have been primarily used in the early years of school K 2 Recently picture books have creatively explored concepts in all areas of the curriculum and at all educational levels Can picture books be used successfully and effectively in middle or high school curriculum Why or why not I think that books with pictures can always be helpful Especially in science or history classes where an illustration may help students to either understand the material or help them to identify what they are being taught A picture book without words can be helpful in many different areas Specifically picture books can be used in special needs classes where students may not be able to grasp the concept without a graphic representation in ESL classes where students are learning to speak the English language and may need pictures to associate new words with their meaning These situations can occur at any grade level and at any age group Science labs can benefit from having a picture book that illustrates step by step instructions on how to perform a specific process Many different subjects can use pictures to better illustrate material that may be difficult to comprehend without pictures
