Dq 1 and 2 Dq 1 Dq 2 The goals of punishment and corrections are to keep criminal activity to a minimum Once a crime has been committed the goal is to catch the offender an seek justice for the victim This is done by subjecting the criminal to a specific punishment It is believed that if an offender is punished for his or her crime he or she will not repeat the action The goal of community corrections is also to keep criminal activity at a low level Community corrections involve punishment within the community rather than in a jail or prison Other goals include holding the offender accountable for his or her actions and communities getting restitution from those offenders It is believed that non violent offenders can be rehabilitated within the community thus helping to alleviate the over crowding within the prison system It is my belief that the death penalty serves as a wonderful deterrent and considering that the criminal ends up dead the effectiveness of the punishment is obviously 100 Ethical formalism one of the branches of the deontological system states that all individuals should be held to the same standard How does this affect my thoughts on the death penalty If someone were to kill one member of my family or one of my close friends I would want that individual to pay I would want that individual s life to be over just as the life of my loved one was I do believe that there should be careful scrutiny before an individual is killed for his or her crime It ia s punishment that should only be used in the most severe cases where rehabilitation is never going to an option
