DQ2 Week 5 Please respond to this discussion question by Saturday Day 5 What is the middle If we have student scores of 4 0 3 7 3 7 3 7 and 1 0 the average would be 3 2 whereas both the median and the mode would be 3 7 Is one of them truly in the middle How dispersed is this list That is how much do the scores vary from the middle Consider a routine task you do daily Which matters most the average time it takes to complete the task or the most frequent amount of time How much does the time spent on the task vary How would you go about finding the middle of the process If we have student scores of 4 0 3 7 3 7 3 7 and 1 0 the average would be 3 2 whereas both the median and the mode would be 3 7 Is one of them truly in the middle If you take out the 1 0 the middle is slightly higher if it the mean Regardless the mean is 3 2 and is merely a reflection of the lowest score skewing the data The mode is 3 7 as its frequency is highest and is a better reflection of what the most of the class will get therefore the middle The median is reflective of the 3 7 and is the statistical middle 3 7 is the best rational as the middle as no one received a 3 2 How dispersed is this list Taking the list the dispersion is around 3 7 as the norm with 4 0 nearby and 1 0 very far away 4 0 3 7 3 7 3 7 3 7 1 0 Consider a routine task you do daily Which matters most the average time it takes to complete the task or the most frequent amount of time I eat food every 3 hours I eat lots of protein to get my day going In the morning it is quick at most 2 minutes to prepare at snack it is 1 minute at lunch it is 5 minutes at afternoon snack it is 1 minute and at dinner it is 30 minutes The average time for the bulk of the day is under 5 minutes the frequency is in the morning to early afternoon that is the mode of about 2 minutes Dinner ironically is the most loved and takes longer to create and consume So for me the most important is the average time it takes as dinner is the most important To finding the middle I would break it up into one minute increments and do a distribution Morning 1 1 n 2 Mid Morn 1 n 1 Lunch 1 1 1 1 1 n 5 Mid After 1 n 1 Dinner 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 n 30 If I remove dinner I have lunch as the mode of 5 and yes lunch is the middle of the day If I include dinner the mode is 30 and the day is skewed The mean is 19 5 and the median is 20 5 Neither of these are representative of the true middle which is lunch
