Are legal rights harmful to minorities Think about this for a minute it does make sense The answer to this question lies within the theory that if one has rights then they can also have their rights taken away from them in my opinion While minorities have the same rights now such as the right to possess a firearm they also have had their right to make their own decision on whether or not to wear a seatbelt taken away as all other Americans have Regardless of the rights that have been taken away from Americans we also have rights that are afforded to us such as the right to have legal representation if one cannot afford it This is a rights that is given to every person regardless of criminal history or any other circumstances The United States has more individual rights and freedoms for it s citizens than that of any other country which is the reason why so many people from other countries have come or strive to come to the Unites States An example of rights given to minorities is the right to be considered for an employment position and in fact there are some companies that are required to hire a certain number of minorities I do not personally think that legal rights are harmful to minorities I think this way and maybe I am na ve but I don t they do because even though there are minorities in this country they are still citizens of the United States They are still Americans Do I feel that legal rights are harmful to minorities Not at all If nothing else I would say that especially in business minorities have more rights I think it is this way because in the past many minorities have been mistreated and misrepresented throughout the United States Many jobs today require that the interview process consist of minorities it is a LAW that they MUST have minority candidates Do I consider this a bad thing Not necessarily I am not offended by this I think minorities should be given equal opportunity but most importantly I think the fact they are minority should not matter it should be qualification If a minority candidate is the most qualified then they should be given that job The fact that a law exists requiring minority candidates to be interviewed I feel continues to separate and us a society and makes us appear unequal I tend to think that opportunities should be granted on merit not race
