This guide is a summation of the chapters Basically the events that occur in each chapter Chapter 27 Chapter 28 Chapter 29 Chapter 27 is about the scientific and psychological developments that revolutionized the way of thinking during the early 20th century Popular scientific and psychological leaders were Albert Einstein s theory of relativity and Sigmund Freud subconscious reality During this time artists either embraced or rejected the progress of modernity Marcel Duchamp served as an important figure with conceptual ideas of art Because of the flux of events in this time period a handful of movements and artists were brought about during this time Chapter 28 is about the devastating effects WWI had on Western civilization which subsequently a flurry of movements and new artists The ideas of Freud had carried on during this time creating a new movement called Surrealism The ideas of Duchamp carried on during this time creating a new movement called Dadaism There was also an increasing interest in racial and ethnic identity between African Americans and Mexican muralists Because of the flux of events in this time period a handful of movements and artists were brought about during this time Chapter 29 is about the devastating effects WWII had on Western civilization which subsequently marked the shift of artistic centers and the creation of Abstract Expressionism Duchamp s ideas of art continued during this period and sparked the movement called Conceptual art This period pushed the language of art even further with its creation of Pop Art Minimal art and Post Minimalism Because of the flux of events in this time period a handful of movements and artists were brought about during this time
