Is it important to expose your students to all genres of literature Why or why not As a child my mother took us to different plays musicals museums etc She always told us that she wanted us to be culturally well rounded I think that the same theory applies to literature Different genres offer different perspectives Poetry is very different from a novel and so forth Having said that I think that it is important to expose children to all genres of literature Students learn in very different ways for example one student may get poetry while another is bored to tears by it Having been exposed to it the student that was bored to tears may eventually come across a poem that really strikes a chord Because there had been exposure that student may have a more open mind to the poetry than if they had never read any before Furthermore different writing styles poetry fantasy non fiction offer different perspectives in education Learning those different styles and the languages that they are presented help students vocabulary grow as well as being more well rounded as individuals
