Law 1 Jennifer Law CLT3370 06 Ana Belinskaya February 19 2014 Zeus and Hyacintha Thebes was a beautiful little city in Greece filled with many beautiful people The most beautiful however was said to be a young mortal woman named Hyacintha She was astoundingly beautiful with eyes the color of bright blue flower petals and long brown luscious hair Hyacintha was without a doubt the most beautiful woman there was in all of Thebes She also just so happened to be the daughter of the King Alexander the king of Thebes He knew that his daughter was the prized possession for all the men of Thebes so when she was young he made the decision to keep her locked in their castle for many days at a time as to make sure she remained a virgin for the man she was set to marry when she came of age She was allowed out once a week however which was every Monday She was allowed out to go to the large forest across the way to collect wild flowers for their castle since she had a love of wild flowers One Monday when she was out picking the wild flowers for her castle the god Zeus saw her walking along the edge of a patch of flowers He immediately knew that he must have her to himself for she was the most beautiful mortal woman that he had ever laid his eyes upon He decided to disguise himself as a hunter and went into the woods to confront her Hyacintha knowing she was much wanted but no one could have her loved to flaunt herself So when she spotted the hunter she immediately took up the chance to try to seduce him Zeus knowing exactly what she was up to played along with her game He made a bet with her that if he could Law 2 get into her locked room in the castle he would be allowed to have her Hyacintha knowing that it was absolutely impossible to do so agreed That night she waited for the nameless hunter that she met in the forest but he never showed up This saddened her very much for she though that he might actually be able to sneak in and get to her For the next few nights she did the same waiting for the man to comet to her but again he did not show up By the following Sunday night she had given up all hope that he would be able to sneak his way in when suddenly she heard footsteps She opened her eyes and there he was the nameless hunter standing in front of her just as he had done in the forest He said that he was got in and she better keep her promise that she made to him in the forest That night she gave her virginity to him and when she woke up there was a beautiful bouquet of wild flowers for her and a note that said that he would come every Sunday night to her just as he had done the previous night The hunter and Hyacintha kept up this Sunday night affair for many weeks Then one Sunday night when she heard the footsteps she opened her eyes to see a different much smaller man was standing in front of her He was dressed in all white wearing a petsus and carrying a rod He said that his name was Hermes and he had a very important message to her from the goddess Hera The message said that Hyacintha was to end the affair with Zeus that night or else Hera would but in a cruel way that would be the death of her This did not scare Hyacintha for she did not believe the man she was seeing every Sunday night was Zeus because the man that came to her looked like a normal hunter and nowhere near god like So that night when the hunter finally came to her she asked him for his true identity and Zeus lied saying he was just a hunter from another town that had fallen in love with her beauty To Hyacintha the hunter was telling the truth so she kept up the affair Law 3 The next day when she was out picking flowers Hyacintha decided that she would take a different route for she felt if the man named Hermes was right Hera would have something waiting for her on the route she normally took So Hyacintha kept a watchful eye but went into a beautiful meadow that she had never seen before She started picking all the yellow wild flowers she could find As the day went on and nothing bad happened she loosened up a bit and became more carefree This caused her to stop watching her surroundings so she did not notice that there was a giant 20 foot yellow and green snake slithering towards her through the meadows tall grasses The snake blended in absolutely perfect and sat in the grasses watching her waiting for the right moment Hyacintha being on a yellow wild flower spree saw the snake s beautiful yellow pattern and started to walk towards it thinking it was just a new type of flower When she was about a foot away from the giant snake she made out the shape of it and immediately turned around screaming and ran back to the city The following Sunday when Zeus came Hyacintha was ready for him She started to question him no longer believing he was just a hunter Zeus eventually told her the truth but told her that Hera was not a threat to her at all He said that as long as they changed the day Zeus came Hera would believe that they stopped the affair So instead of engaging in their usual activities Zeus decided that he would leave that night and go to Hera saying it ended but then come back that following Thursday instead Hyacintha agreed to this and his plan worked out for many weeks Hera believed that the affair had ended until one day Zeus did not come to her that Sunday as he had been This made her become suspicious that he was just lying to her as he normally did and he was continuing the affair behind her back She sent one of her attendants named Iris to spy on the mortal daily and to see if Zeus indeed was still having an affair with her So her attendant went to Thebes and watched Hyacintha for a few days until that Thursday where Law 4 she saw Zeus enter her room in the castle Iris immediately reported back to Hera and the goddes became absolutely furious She told the snake she sent the first day that he was to kill the girl no matter what Hyacintha and Zeus had no idea that they had been caught by Hera s attendant so when the Monday came around and Hyacintha went out for flowers she was not worried at all Hyacintha decided that she would go back to the meadow she had first witnessed the snake because …
