1 2 A The two substances that had the biggest impact on raising the worm s pulsation rate were caffeine and caffeine paired with ginseng The mean change in pulsation rate for caffeine alone was about 9 beats per minute and the caffeine with ginseng was the overall highest with a mean change in pulsation rate at approximately 12 beats per minute Although alcohol had the highest range in pulsation when the worm was given this substance it had little impact on the pulsation rate This can be evidenced by worms mean change being 4 beats per minute under the influence of alcohol Lastly the substance with the least affect on the worm s pulsation rate was ginseng alone with 0 beats per minute change B According to the Recreational Drug Table and my own evidence alcohol and ginseng can be considered depressants This can be seen by the little change in pulsation rate on the worm during the testing a main quality shared by depressants and its lack of movement Caffeine and caffeine paired with ginseng can be labeled as stimulants Both substances caused a dramatic spike in pulsation rate and for the worm to move at a rapid pace C Stimulants may affect the central nervous system by exciting it and making it work at a faster pace which naturally requires an increase in heart rate This is opposite to the affect a depressant would have on the central nervous system as its classification indicates its impact on the body This type of substance slows down brain activity and causes the user to feel drowsy representing the idea that the central nervous system is functioning at a much lower capacity B I feel as if though in this experiment the weed killer and the bleach will have the same effect because they are both highly poisonous The presence of either chemical in the process of sexual fertilization will most likely act like a sperm cell and look for the eggs that are present in the solution However due to their toxicity instead of combining they will kill the eggs present and prevent the first stages of cell division or meiosis from occurring which is vital to fertilization Without this two haploids cannot combine to create the full diploid that would have been created during restoration and used as a genetic code
