effort b c of demand spurred by war industry expanded employment becomes avail able and there was a shortage of workers problem not enough workers to meet demand of military buildup by 1943 unemployment was simply unheard of by end of war 24 million ppl correlated directly in defense forces labor shortage has variety of results 1 progressive and new deal era labor reforms fall by the wayside Gov t passed laws and regulations that we ignored then suspended with war institute longer working day wages cut 2 more and more women come into work force women had to fill jobs of men that went to military take up many office jobs and factory jobs ROSIE THE RIVETER represents women that took jobs in factories to replace men in war women end up making over a third of nations work force after war many women quit or were fired from jobs some continues to work it becomes much more acceptable for women to work after the war WW2 drove social change Trend of women in work force grows from then on 3 social change for AA during war many white men enlist in army so many AA men and women help fill demand illustrates that they can do same jobs as white men less racist attitudes with sacrifices they had to make during the war want them to be happy that they re in the factory making their own food and all the other thing they have to sacrifice media and many busi nesses on board
