trained in Germany to carry out a plot on American soil June 13 1942 one german U boat with 4 of the men Dasch Berger Quirin and Heinck landed off the coast of long Island Dasch was chosen because had been born in Germany but spent a few years in the US Burger was chosen because he was a german who had come to US then went back to Germany but was sent to a concentration camp This mission would allow him to get out of the camp These men landed on the beach and their mission was to bomb major roads bridges and railroads in the US A Navy officer Cullen stopped the men on the beach and they paid him 280 to keep his mouth shut He went back and told officers but the 4 men had already left for NYC by the time the officers came back the 4 men partied it up in NYC with the extra money they had Dasch decided he wanted to turn them in and had no intiention of continuing with the plan because he wanted to be received as an American hero Dasch went to Burger and said that if he didn t agree with Daschs plan he would kill him Burger was fine with the plan especially because he had been a victim of the concentration camps Dasch went to DC to turn in the plan
