Trey, I’m so glad you followed your interests in thinking about this research project. This is goingto be an excellent project (although I’m a little biased also being “addicted” to lifting and interested in self-feelings like confidence). As I read through the types of survey questions you are proposing (which sound great), it struck me that none ask about how someone felt about their body prior to and after beginning weight lifting. Perhaps you don’t want to include these types of questions, which is fine. But your own story suggested, to me, that perhaps you might have felt more confident in your body specifically after putting on those 30 pounds and experiencing strength gains. Body confidence can be a part of self-confidence, but it is more specific. If you’re only interested in self-confidence in general, keep with the plan to focus on statements about general self-confidence. If you’re interested in how feelings associated with the body might have changed as an outcome of weight lifting, perhaps build in some specific statements about that for people to rate the degree to which they agree or disagree. Next steps are to solidify a list of your survey questions and launch your survey! I’m excited to see what you find.Points: 5/5Trey AustinEver since I was a little kid, I have always been the tall, skinny type of guy. I got into weightlifting when I was in tenth grade. However, I was a competitive long-distance runner from sixth grade up until twelfth grade. I wasn’t making much progress in the gym, as I was constantly burning many calories each day from all the running I was doing. Halfway through twelfth grade in between the cross country and track seasons, I decided it was time to quit running and make a complete switch to lifting so I could hopefully progress faster. Sure enough,my numbers in each of the three lifts started shooting up after I had stopped running for a few months and had put on about thirty pounds of body weight. The progress is what caused me to become so addicted to weight lifting in the first place, as it causes you to stay hungry and keep wanting to see the same increase in your maxes. Since I am extremely into weightlifting, I have decided to make this my topic of interest for my research project. The main research question I will have gained a clear answer to by the end of this project is “what effect does weightlifting have on people’s self-confidence?” In order to answer this question, I will conduct a survey and ask the participants a variety of questions to determine how weightlifting affects their confidence levels. I will ask the participants questions about what got them into weightlifting, how confident they were before starting their weightlifting journey, how weightlifting affects them in other areas of their lives, and general background questions about their age, gender, and family. I will give them answer choices ranging from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree”. This will help me notice any trends in the results I get for each question in the survey. Along with the survey I plan to conduct, I will also be conducting research to compare to the results of my survey. This research will primarily focus on backing up the findings of the
