Which groups within a country tend to benefit from freer trade and which groups tend to be hurt?The people of a country are both to benefit and to hurt from freer trade. Studies conducted in the United States show that regions with higher expo-sure to imports from China experience higher rates of unemployment and lower wages than other regions. On the other hand, exports create millions of jobs for the people of the country stimulating their economy. So, existing workers are groups which tend to be hurt by freer trade while people looking for jobs tend to benefit from it. Why has backlash against globalization and international trade increased, despite programs intended to benefit workers harmed by trade?The backlash against globalization and international trade has increased due to protectionism. The Midwestern states of the United States are considered to be swing states in politics and they were affected the most by trade. Don-ald Trump took advantage of this situation and used it to win the election which forecasted a more protectionist foreign economic policy.
