The use of e-mail has become a standard for today’s communication. How has the use of e-mail affected the verbal and para-verbal communication channels of communications? What benefits have resulted from its use? What forms of para-verbal channels have developed in e-mail?I love e-mail, it is great!!!However, when the message is not clear, it can!have large consequences.! According to our reading, verbal is the most specific channel to communicating.! It is important to provide as much detail as possible when communicating by e-mail so the recipients can be on the same page and understand the context of the email.! I believe it is also important to not use slang or abbreviations when communicating by e-mail.! Everyone may not have the same understanding or meaning if slang and abbreviations are used.! Depending on the context of the e-mail, background information may need to be provided, so the individual may understand the request.!!Using e-mail as a way of communicating has many benefits.! E-mail is a low-cost way to communicate, it is fast, easy to use and can reach many recipients at one time.! Another benefit is that e-mails can be used as documentation between two parties.! E-mail has affected para-verbal communication in many ways.! Some forms of para-verbal channels when communicating through e-mail are using all caps, this is seen as someone is yelling.! Also, the tone is not interpreted when communicating via e-mail.! The loss of tone can leave the other individual wondering how the message was truly intended.! Also, using the ellipse can also show the meaning of a pause.! Additionally, using certain key combinations can result in a smiley face, which can inform your reader of your mood.! All of these examples can express one's feelings and emotions when using e-mail as a form of communication.Response 2E-mail is a great way to communicate in today's world. people can respond quicker using e-mail than using the regular mail. The way that e-mail has affected verbal communication is because we do not have to use exact words to communicate. There are ways to shorten the words or use abbreviations to express what we are trying to communicate. The way that e-mail has affected the para-verbal would be that there can be a miss communication about something that was said. A person might e-mail something to someone else and the context ofthe e-mail might be taken completely wrong when there was nothing meant by what they said. I believe that the most benefit that has come from e-mail is that communication can be done quicker than it use to be. A person can send an e-mail and the other person receive it in minutes. The forms of para-verbal channels that have developed in e-mails would be the way that people use CAPS and people take it as yelling, also the little smiley faces used with their signatures, and last the way that people shorten their words can leave people not understanding exactly the felling behind the
