Demonstrate how a job analysis increases productivity, aids in job description creation, and guides employee team formationJob analysis can increase productivity by empowering employees to have more of a say so when making critical decisions. They will recognize there are ramifications behind their decisions. Giving employees more responsibility gives them pride and increases moral. I can only speak for myself, but when I am trusted with a task; I work hard at it and gain a sense of validation. Productivity can also be a benefit to companies by having a clear understanding ofyour job. Currently I work as a Project Coordinator. My job position has changed 6 times in 4years. I am not sure why, but I am told that I have strong organizational skills. In the past the company has suffered at the hand of persons not completing task and finishing jobs. I have coordinated two different departments. You can increase productivity if you feel validated, but I have to say that not really understanding my job description has been difficult. I believe you need a true job description so you don't feel that you are not being used or taken advantage of.Response 2Job analysis is a great way for company's to gather information about jobs, duties, what typesof employees they will need to perform those work duties. When a company understands what it takes to perform a job it is easier to explain to an employee what is expected from them as far as job performance. This helps with productivity because the employee will understand exactly how the job is to be performed, which also aids with safety procedures because the employer gives a more of astep-by-step guide on how to perform each task.Employees can also help in the area of productivity because they work directly with the job on a daily basis and will be able to give employers ideas on how to make the job more productive. The employee may see things that needs upgraded or another way to perform the job with better and safer results, which can lead the company in the right direction to making changes in the description of the job. Most company's appreciate this initiative from employees and praise them on their help because the more productive a company is, the more sales and revenue it will bring in. The "team" effort helps keep up moral, which leads to more productivity.DQ 2What experience do you have, or have heard about, where poor job analysis affected employees?I do feel that company's have good intentions when it comes to giving internal analysis insidean organization. Currently there was an analysis done in the office measuring how employeesspend their time. It was said that this was done to see if we really needed new employees. Thestaff had been complaining about being short staffed. In crunch times or if employees were out sick; the staff would suffer. So some stats were taken to see if there was really a need. Again I would like to say it seemed like a good idea at the time, but there was no real way to measure their findings. It is a small office and each employee has different work schedules. Itbecame a nightmare, because what it did show was that only one person was covering for six other employees. The company found themselves revealing other issues inside the organization. Needless to say, there are still no new employees and the issue still exist. I believe if a company really wants to make a difference they should listen to the concerns of the employees and not look at them as complaints. The employees employee moral is down and so is trust.Response 2Unfortunately I think I answered this inadvertently in the last DQ. 6I have had personal experience with job analysis gone wrong. 6The company that I work completed a job analysis for all employees. 6The analysis that was done of my particular job was done by a supervisor that had never actually done our job. 6She worked at our job for about a week, keeping track of everything she did, how long it took her to do it, and how often she did it. 6The they based our pay on her job description. 6I have worked for this company for 14 years and they dropped my pay based on someone else's analysis of doing what they thought was my job for one week. 6When I saw the job description I was amazed. 6She did not even scrap the surface. She did not list the majority of what we do because she could not do it, therefore she could not track how long it would take to do it. 6She also did not include anything that we do regularly but she just did not happen to get asked to do in that one weeks time. 6And most of the reason she did not get asked stuff is because people would hang up when she answered the phone because most of the time she could not help them anyway. 6They would just hang up and call back until one of us answered that they knew could help them. 6It was really disappointing and disheartening to see that this was the way our company was going to be treating us from now on. 6The attitude at our company has changed so drastically in the last year or so since they did this. 6The majority of the employees feel as though they have been cheated and that the company no longer shows any loyalty to employees why should they should any loyalty to the company. 6It is a sad decline in
