RELIGION AND GENDER Lecture 13Why are only few women leading religious institutions?[NAVINDI WEERASINGHE]July 16, 2014RELIGION AND GENDERLecture 13Why are only few women leading religious institutions?- There are a higher percentage of women theologically more on the liberal side.- Women have many restrictions when it comes to religion.- For example they cannot be head clergy they cannot preach at main worship services Hold all volunteer positions that men can hold Serve on main governing boards Teach a class of Adult men- However women have more authority and status.- Female deities seem to more predominant and powerful.- Moral oppression Women are easily seen as figures that tempt someone to do something. Women are totally vulnerable- Social Oppression Denied access to learning. Women have limited opportunities compared with men. Being a woman you are not allowed to do everything a man can do. At least you can be disregarded and you may appear out of the ordinary if you do something a man does. A woman’s primary duty is to concentrate on household duties and manage all householdneeds effectively. Therefore female are not seen by society as people who can involved inreligious activities.- There is also argument about whether same sex marriages should be accepted or not in society.1[NAVINDI WEERASINGHE]July 16, 2014This graph suggests that people below the age of 29 feel that same sex marriage should be recognized .Onthe other hand, it is important to note that people over the 30 years of age oppose the idea of same sex marriage and they do not want it to be recognized by the Law as valid.However in America, certain states such as Iowa, Gay marriage is legal.2[NAVINDI WEERASINGHE]July 16,
