Running head: ACCOUNTABILITY 1Accountability HCS/ 475ACCOUNTABILITY 2Accountability IntroductionThis paper will address the health care accountability issues that many hospitals are face with today. It is important to hold employees accountable for their actions especially when dealing with patients. In this paper it will show solutions on ways to make employees affective and how to reach productivity in their work. Americans have welcomed the world of technology as we see it today. Technology has evolved and has allowed every company to expand its horizons. We have had tremendous breakthroughs in medical research and miracle drugs worldwide. Over time, however the questions arise more means better, but to what magnitude and who will be accountable for whichaspect of the health care arena. Accountability is important because of the rising medical and health coverage cost since the early 1970s (Darby, 1998). Since that time Medicare has made stricter demands on hospitals reviews and holding them accountable for the care of the patients. Hence, by doing this holds the physicians accountable for the care and the cost that Medicare andother medical health coverage expense that has to be pay out. Physicians were treating their patients but some were adding unnecessary test in order to appease their patients. So in essence what the insurance companies are saying “Doctor’s only recommend test that are needed”. If in fact the test is not needed then the insurance company’s do not have to pay. Therefore, there will be a loss of funds and someone will have to pay. At one time or another in everyone’s life most will apply for a job. Those that apply for employment understand that a service is too rendered inorder to receive a paycheck. Holding employees accountable will help the individual to become an asset to the organization. It is when managers do not hold their employee’s accountable is when the problems arise. Surprisingly, managers who do not hold their employees accountableACCOUNTABILITY 3leave them frustrated and confused as they are unsure of what the supervisor expects from them. Accountability is a good thing it helps employers achieve results from their employees. Holding employee’s accountable helps the employee’s know what level of satisfaction has been achieved (Williams, 2008). Hospitals rely on their human resource and their supervisor’s to make sure thatthe employees are being held accountable, in making sure that each person is license according to their discipline. In order for hospitals to maintain their accreditation through the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) all health care providers should maintain their licensure. This is a very important and the accountability falls on the supervisor’s and staff. All health care providers are responsible to maintain their license and it is the supervisor’s duty to check. A successful organization understands checks and balances within a company. Hospitals that are successful understand the rules of delegation and implementing strategies within its system. Hospitals are being watched by the federal government and they understand that they can be audit at anytime. So therefore, there is not a lot of room left for error, each department has to be in compliance and accounted for. For instance, the coding and billing department have a clear cut definition on what is expected and if there are major issues within the department it could delay payment from medical insurances. So it is important that that every department is properly trained and managed accordingly. If there are too many audits and medical insurance companies are slow pay, this may cause a huge financial burden on the hospital (Chavis, 2009). Culture differences often stem from communication challenges and thus causing a blame shift. Becoming more aware of culture differences and the willingness to explore cross-culture communication. Most often it is not necessarily a person from a different race of people, but the same race of people who share different values and cultures. Diversity and culture is no different in the work place. In being able to run an affectiveACCOUNTABILITY 4organization one has to be willing to understand diversity. Furthermore, one has to know that diversity is good for every organization. Culture shock is the failure to identify cultures issues relating to the organizations of the patients and the staff (Kotelnikov, 2003). Within an organization everyone should be held accountable to the mission of the company. When workingin a healthcare setting patient care has to override culture disparities and diversity. As a health care professional, patient safety and care is number one. Accountability is emphasized in the debate on patient care because how decision makers are held accountable is presumed to influence how they make decisions and the quality of those decisions. The affect should be positive knowing that people have to put aside their differences in order to get the job done. ConclusionI n this paper we see have culture differences can have a negative or positive impact on any organization. With any organization not just in the health care arena there needs to be checksand balances to ensure that the staff is held accountability and is in compliance within the confine of the law. It is also important that every manager communicate well and have a willingness to learn and be open minded on issues with diversity.ACCOUNTABILITY 5 ReferenceChavis, S.C(2009).CFor the Record: Checks and Balances.CRetrieved from http://www.fortherecordmag.com/archives/072009p12.shtml Darby, M.C(1998).CHealth Care Quality from Data to Accountability.CRetrieved from http://www.nhpf.org/library/background.../BP_100_HCData_2-98.pdfKotelnikov, Vadim.C(2003).CManaging Cultural Differences.CRetrieved from http://www.1000ventures.com/.../cross-cultural_differences.html -Williams, A.C(2007).CEmployee Accountability."Retrieved from
