Physiological Sciences 13 – Introduction to Human Anatomy Summer 2018 - Session A Course Objectives: This class will introduce you to the anatomy of the human body. We will use a systemic approach, making our way through all the body’s major systems. Lectures will focus on introducing you to anatomical terms and general orientation. Labs will focus on hands-on instruction with prepared specimens, models, and diagrams. (5 units) Professor: Rana R. Protective aprons and gloves will be provided. Texts: Human Anatomy, Saladin, 5th edition Lab Manual – UCLA Course Reader Solutions, available at the UCLA bookstore Website: https://ccle.ucla.edu/course/view/181A-PHYSCI13-1 Grading: Course grades will be based on the following: Quizzes (Given online) 20% Written Exam 1 (Covering weeks 1-3) 20% Written Exam 2 (Covering weeks 4-6) 20% Practical Exam 1 (Labs 1-3) 18% Practical Exam 2 (Lab 4-7) 22% There is no extra credit available. Quizzes: Online quizzes will be given during the course on CCLE. These will be multiple choice/answer and true/false, and are mainly designed to keep you up on the readings and lectures. Written Exams: Multiple choice, matching, fill-in-the-blank, and short answer (Ex: describe, explain, outline, draw) questions covering material from the previous eight lectures. WRITTEN EXAM 2 is cumulative only in the sense that we build on concepts throughout the quarter. Written exams are held during lecture on 7/11 and 8/1. Make-up written exams are possible only under extenuating circumstances. You must notify the instructor within 24 hours with verifiable original documentation if you fail to show up for the written exam! Practical Exams: These two exams will cover material from 4 lab sections. You will always have open labs the week of practical exams (as shown below). The second practical exam is NOT cumulative. Note: PRACTICAL EXAMS ARE HELD DURING YOUR REGULAR LAB TIME (7/11-7/12 & 8/1-8/2).
