Then, briefly explain one way in which the argument you explained is challenged in philosophy.Paley’s teleological argument, or design argument, for the existence of God reasons that the world most likely was purposefully designed. He uses an argument of analogy by describing a watch and its particular moving parts which are designed specifically for the purpose of telling time. He uses the watch as an analogy to the world and the watch maker as an analogy for God. If the parts of the watch had been constructed in any other way, it may not have the ability to produce motion and tell time, making it not a watch at all. Paley reasons that the watch must have been made by a watch maker whocomprehended its construction and designed its use purposefully, not by accident. He argues that it is inevitable that the world and all its parts were constructed in this same fashion, by an intelligent maker, being God.Hume challenged the design argument by stating that the analogy is too weak, holding that here are too many dissimilarities and too few relevant similarities.
