General InformationThis interview allows you to get experience interviewing on both sides of the table. For 5 minutes, you will be “interviewed” by a friend, family member, or other for a real job you would want to apply for. Then, the roles will switch and you will interview someone for the same position. In all, this assignment should equal 10 minutes. To complete this interview, you will record yourself and upload the file to LaunchPad. You will then write a short paper critiquing your performance in the interview. Since you are having a friend of family member help you with this assignment, be sure to prepare them for the interview as much as possible. You may want to send them a suggested question list for when they are the interviewer and the list of questions you are going to ask themwhen they are the interviewee. I’m really looking to see that you have adequately prepared and are able to have dyadic interactions with another person in an “interview” type setting. I think it’sreally important to practice these skills in a low stakes environment. This gives you a chance to test out some responses and not have a job on the line. I have found this exercise to be really helpful even in my own career, so it really would help you in the long term to take it seriously. As you review the grading rubric and read the book chapter, you might notice quite a few similarities between the speeches you have been giving and the structure of your interview. You want a good opener, a body (the question and answer section), and a conclusion to wrap up. Eventhe grading rubric is very similar to the one you have seen before. A copy of the grading rubric ison D2L for your convenience. Below are a few things you should make sure to have in your submitted video. As the interviewer- Use a good opening technique (p. 468)- Use open questions (p. 469)- Make sure questions are understandable, simple, and direct (p. 470)- Guide the interview using one of the techniques listed in your book (p. 471)- Use a good closing strategy (p. 472)- Review interviewer responsibilities (p. 474)As the interviewee- Be prepared for both primary and secondary questions (p. 470)- Anticipate common questions or difficult questions (p. 484)- Ask your own questions (p. 486)- Review interviewee responsibilities (p. 476)Suggestions- Practice answering your questions! Be prepared for your interview!- Pick a job you want to apply for. This can be a real job opportunity or just a dream job but at the start of the interview the interviewer should give a short job description (see thesection in your book on starting an interview p. 468). - If you want to record 2 separate interviews and piece them together, that is fine. However, this is the only acceptable edit to your video. All other cuts or edits may be subject to a reduction in points. - Make sure you and your family member are both in the recording during your interview. Here are a few examples of set ups that would work well. You may choose to have a tablebetween you or not, but please make sure that both people can be seen and heard during the entire duration of the interviews. -o https://www.usability.gov/how-to-and-tools/methods/individual-interviews.html-o
