All students are also eligible to earn extra credit for up to four (4) additional hours of research providing students attend the required six hours without incurring a penalty for non-attendance. It is expected that everyone will fulfill this requirement through direct research participation. If this poses a problem for you, Option B provides an alternate way of fulfilling the requirement. Option B consists of writing six (6) 2-page research reports based on the assigned articles. If you choose Option B, you must sign up for it on the research website (above) by Tuesday of the third week of class. Option B also provides students with an option to earn extra credit by completing four (4) additional papers providing students complete the required six papers on time without incurring a failing mark on any of them. Students must sign up for Option B or direct research participation via the research website. FAILURE TO MEET THIS RESEARCH REQUIREMENT: A portion of your grade in PSY100 or PSY250 is comprised of this research requirement. Therefore, if you fail to fulfill this requirement you will lose points for each research credit, as determined by your instructor. Access https://psywebserv.psych.colostate.edu/ResearchPool/ Deadlines Direct Participation (Option A) All research participation (Option A) credits must be completed by Friday, December 7th, 2018. Research Summaries (Option B) Sign-up for Option B by Tuesday of the 3rd week of class. All research summaries (Option B) credits must be completed and submitted no later than midnight Friday, October 26th, 2018. You are encouraged to complete your research requirement as early in the semester as possible.2 Research Participation (Option A) • A study can take from ½ hour to 6 hours, with each hour of participation worth 1 research credit. You may participate in any number of studies to total, at least, 6 credits. • Sign-up and information may only be accessed via the web at this address https://psywebserv.psych.colostate.edu/ResearchPool/ • You may not participate in any one particular study more than once. There may be studies that require participants to return for additional sessions. This is not considered participating in the same study twice. • Serving as a research assistant does NOT earn research credits. Research credits may only be earned by attending research as a participant in the research made available to you in the research website. To Sign Up for a Study: 1. Access the web site https://psywebserv.psych.colostate.edu/ResearchPool/ 2. Sign in with your eID. 3. Choose the Click to Register button to view available research or choose the Click Here To Select Option B button. The Option B button will only be available until the third Tuesday of the semester. 4. After choosing the Click to Register button, available research should now be displayed. If no research is displayed, exit the web page, and try back at a later date. Read the description and special requirements carefully. By clicking the View times available for this study link under a study, a list of dates and times for when the study is offered will be displayed. Click the Add button next to the date and time for which you wish to register. If you do not want to register click the Go Back (make no changes) button. If research is not available, check back at a later date, as this program is updated continually. 5. Your sign-up sheet now shows your registration information. It is strongly recommended that you print this sign up sheet as a reminder of the studies for which you will be a participant. It is also recommended that you check your study’s on-line listing before your scheduled research time and day, in case there are building or room changes. Building and room changes will also be e-mailed to you prior to the study.3 During a Study: 1. The researcher will provide you with specific information about the study and what you will be asked to do. During the course of any research study, you reserve the right to discontinue your participation at any time. In such an event, you will not be penalized, but you are still required to complete at least six research credits. You should therefore sign up for another research study. If you discontinue a study, it is your responsibility to leave your name and student ID number (NOT your SSN) with the researcher to be sure a penalty is not administered. 2. After the study the researcher will explain the purpose of the study. You are encouraged to ask the researcher questions about the nature of the investigation and your participation. 3. It is essential that the researcher record your participation BEFORE you leave the research session. This will be the only record of your participation in the study. Signing your name more than once or signing the name of a non-attending student will be considered “academic dishonesty” and may result in expulsion from the course and/or a failing grade. Attendance: Absence Questions and Concerns In most situations, such as having a question concerning attendance, or need of an excused absence, you will need to contact the researcher in charge of the study. Your instructor does not have information on attendance (other than what is already posted on your online account), and cannot excuse you from attending a study; you must talk with the researcher listed on the web page to get answers to these particular questions. Posting of Credits You will not receive credit for research until the researcher has recorded the attendance. Your sign-up sheet displays the attendance information next to each research credit. If your sign-up does not show your attendance in a study within a week or two following the study, it is recommended
