Chapter 2 Essay Topic:Part A: Read an article that involves physics or technology that appeared in the last week or two. Describe an article in one to three paragraphs, with emphasis on the technological aspects. If youdo not understand the article, list the things you do not understand. Recently workflow management systems have been updated to all allow people to prepare, produce and analyze scientific processes. A workflow management system is software that provides an infrastructure to setup, perform and observe scientific workflow. The system produces complex simulations to help people understand the scientific processes. This updated system is known as the Eclipse Integrated Computational Environment, also known as ICE. This system is now able to help people save time because all the resources are collected into one system which makes it easier for programmers, scientists and software developers to run simulations. People are also able to run their simulations on personal computers which is way more convenient than before. This system also analyzes and archives the data so it can be used by other researchers. ICE was designed to have the simulations and data flow seamlessly together without having all of the mess in between. This allows the simulations to get back results in a faster manner. This tool is something out of the future because it is technology people never thought they would have at their fingertips. Researchers are now able to use this system to study a wide range of topics such as neutron science, quantum computing and nuclear energy. This system hastaken out all of the steps in between and researchers are able to put in their data and get out answers therefore cutting the time in half that it takes to get results on their research. Another thing that makes ICE so versatile is that it is able to be used by anyone who needs to use it. Anyone can simply pick up and start working on a simulation or use data that has already been recorded. The last thing that sets ICE above the rest is the process it relies on. While most systems use grid workflows, a collection of arranged computer processes, ICE relies on flexible modeling that allows researchers to adjust the information without throwing off the whole simulation. There are a couple of elements of this system that I am curious about. I would like to see how this system exactly works. I understand that it has all of the results of these simulations and data saved for other people to use, but I am curious about how that data is stored and sorted inthe system. I would like to know the math problem behind the system While I do find this article very interesting it is hard for me to fully understand this new technology. I would be interested inlooking at the step-by-step process that goes on behind this system like how the simulations are run and how they receive and interpret the results. Part B: Find and read an article on physics or technology from some serious website. Give the link to the article, and summarize the article, drawing connections to class and/or explaining what you do not understand about the article.Recently scientists at the University of Tokyo have measured and recorded the largest magnetic fields that has been generated indoors. It is measured at 1,200 tesla. Tesla is the standard unit of measurement for magnetic field strength. To compare it to something everyone would know that is like 400 times more field strength higher than what a hospital MRI machine. This has been done before during outdoor experiments but this latest field is the first to be of thissize that is located inside. This field is said to have pushed the envelope for ultra high magnetic fields. The work that has been documented here is only the first of so much more to be done. This has definitely broken the barrier for magnetic fields. Because scientists now have greater control this could possibly lead them to be able to reach the quantum limit which is a condition where every electron is confined to the lowest ground state. The quantum limit is said to be where exotic quantum phenomena may occur. PART A:DOE/Oak Ridge National Laboratory. "Tech streamlines computational science projects." ScienceDaily. ScienceDaily, , 16 September 2018. www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/09/180916152714.htm.PART B:American Institute of Physics. “New world record magnetic field.” PHYS ORG.
