Ashlee Faloni Bio 01 1L November 7 2018 Pre Lab 10 During this lab the students are conducting an experiment on cytokines influencing hematopoietic stem cells differentiation into the different types of blood cells The students are exploring the differentiation of immature hematopoietic cells in erythrocytes in red blood cells by viewing each slide underneath a microscope with FDCP as well as staining the cells to see the differences between them As well as viewing neutrophils which are white blood cells and macrophages which are a type of white blood cell to see which cell would specialize between all the different types of cells when introduced with IL 3 and seeing it removed as well Lastly using cell staining and microscope skills to see how different chemical growth factors cytokines affects differentiation in a hematopoietic system by determining which types of the cells through the staining and counting the cells 1 The difference between the multipotent stem cell and totipotent stem cell is multipotent stem cell is cells that can self renew by dividing and to develop into multiple special cells such as a tissue or an organ Totipotent stem cell is they have the patient to form any cell in the human body 2 Cytokines is produced within the body in an range of cells such as immune cells macrophages B lymphocytes etc as well as endothelial cells and mast cells 3 The function of macrophages is to locate microscopic foreign bodies and eat them by engulfing and digesting them 4 One needs to fix cells with methanol because methanol is a fixative and the aim for fixation is to preserve the cells or tissues in a near a life like condition as possible and protect tissue
