TO: Professor Emily Bartz FROM: Frank Byers Jr., Texas A&M Student DATE: February 9,2018 SUBJECT: Job Application Packet The purpose of this memo is to inform my instructor on the rhetorical strategies used to craft my job application packet. The goal of this packet was to use persuasive rhetorical strategies in response to the job advertisements selected. Trinity Rail Job Application Trinity Rail is searching for a Financial Planning and Analysis Intern for their 2018 Summer Intern Program in Dallas, TX. I am originally from Dallas, so transportation and housing would not be a problem. I indicated this in my resume, so this opportunity is ideal for me. I believe I am a good candidate for this position because I have the ability to communicate effectively while working with teams, I am highly proficient with working with Microsoft Excel, and have experience in my flexibility with managing school being a college-athlete, as well as being involved with other organizations. I left off many significant things about my internship experience such as getting coffee or picking up office supplies. I put emphasis on the more significant and relevant experiences because it emphasizes the point that I am a better candidate. I included majority of my experiences, however I left some off as well. I am involved in on-campus organizations like the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. I included this on the application because it shows that I can bring diversity to the company. I did not include my involvement with the Texas A&M Financial Planning Student Association because my involvement is minimal. If I was asked about it in an interview, I would not be able to go into depth about the organization. Merrill Lynch Job Application Merrill Lynch is looking for a student intern for the Financial Advisor Summer Analyst Program. This program gives interns the ability to build relations with clients and support client with their financial endeavors. I am a good fit for this internship because I am very ambitious about working in the financial advising field. I included the key words communication, professionalism, and the ability to effectively use Microsoft Excel to sell myself the most these are skills that are needed to be proficient in this job. I added my experience of being a member of the Texas A&M Financial Planning Student Organization at the top of my experience because I was able to network with multiple advisors who work at this company. Being involved in the organizations on campus, alongside my work experience and being a student-athlete should separate me from other candidates. I omitted my GPA: 3.0 because this is highly respected company and I did not want it to be a burden on my application. I used my experience with my previous companies to help boost my application if the hirer was looking for a more experienced intern.Trinity Rail is searching for a Financial Planning and Analysis Intern for our 2018 Summer Intern Program in our Dallas, TX office.
