Amopan: Getting There1) I will be in Amopan for 12months. I would like to study about the Apoman people’sculture and different aspects of lifestyle. First of all, I would be there, observe their daily life,and participate their events.2) The total budget is $11,270. This amount consists of supplies, equipment, transportationand in-field expenses.3) I had to wait six months to get my proposal approved. One of the reasons that it took suchlong times is long distance between a country to another. In addition, obtaining money forresearch, and considering and examination by reference form high status inadministration took times.4) The exchange rate between U.S. dollars and Mexican pesos is one US dollar equals to tenMexican pesos. (Extra credit: 1 US dollar = 13.31 Mexican pesos.)5) The direction from Mexico City to Amopan is North, East.6) Having a contact such as Profesora Elsa Sabia at the Regional Universityof Mexico is a good idea because I might acquire essential and importantinformation from her. It can be very useful for my journey. Also, she had asignificant film by Dr. Radcliffe-Pritchard. If I did not have such a contact, Iwould easily face with problems that I could be able to handle it withcontact. 7) Without a letter of introduction from the President of the Municipio, getting into Amopanwould be much more difficult. Because of this letter, Amopan people would trust me more,and letting me into their daily lives more easily. 8) There were much kind of preparations such as money budgeting, letter of introduction, andmeeting with Profesora Elsa Sabia. These preparations are important to make a planned outjourney with a firm substance that I can research on.9) I included a regional map and a 1965 census in my knapsack. The regional map could helpme to understand Amopan geographical features, and I could have directions to mylocation. The 1965 census could show about the people who live at Amopan, so I would beable to have more information about Amopan.10) The elevation of Amopan is 1,000 meters or 3,280.84 feet. This information was given tome through the sign on the Ethno Quest game right before I go into the town.11) The population of Amopan is 532. This information was also found on the same sign inEthno Qust.Extra Credit12) Bronisalw Radcliffe-Pritchard is an anthropologist who was studying the people ofAmopan in 1965.13) The major problems Radcliffe-Pritchard encountered in Amopan was when it rained formost of the year, so all his notes and books were getting wet and damaged. He also had anyelectricity and had to go to the school to use their generator when given
