Who s Who in Amopan Section 2 Questions from Census Practical Matters 1 I interviewed people who live in Amopan and their families to construct the census and the map The information includes the name of the residents their relationships age gender marital status occupation language spoken and other relatives situations 2 Other relatives living in the household includes sons in law daughters in law grandchildren brother in law and nephew The reason why they are there is because as residents live in the Amopan they would have the generations of offspring and thus their family expanded to the grandchildren generations another reason for that is because some of the resident s relative deceased and left behind their little kids alone so the residents raised them for their passed away relatives 3 Teodora Curandero is a very kind person and people oriented When I met her she immediately welcomed It showed her hospitable personality Later when I showed her my photo album of my family she expressed and felt sorry for me that my families couldn t come with me Juan Jefe is really helped me a lot When I asked him a lot of questions about the village he was very willing to help and answer my questions He is responsible and proud of his own village 4 A practical problem I encountered is that one of the villagers Samuel Pescadero had a very bad hearing and he only responded yes Later when I tried to find Eduardo Jefe s house I took the shortcut and hardly find my way I solved this problem by returning to the main path and found my way 5 When I entered Teodora s house they just spoke so fast So it was hard to catch up The way I solved the problem is that asking them to speak more slowly so I can understand 6 One ethical dilemma I encountered is that I figured out tomas Barros married Juanita who is a lot younger than him When I heard that I couldn t imagine However it is also their culture and it is not ompossible to do it Section 3 Questions from Census Personality and Demographic Issues 1 Juan Jefe put his hand on the heart whenever he talked about his eldest son Fransisco Also Juan considered Fransisco s wife Alicia When Juan talks aobut Miguel he didn t show any emotion and consider Miguel s wife as just an okay person I think the root of these different attitudes is the eldest son heredity system People would always see the eldest son more valued than the rest of the children and give most of the property to their eldest son 2 Tochtli is 51 years old This fact is important because it shows that she got a wedding in the church which reveals her richness 3 Coclitztil wouldn t want to talk to me because her husband died in a war with ranchers It would be cery hard time for her to get over it so she doesn t want to talk to strangers 4 The reason why they confused my naming system in they keep their maiden names as their last manes after marriage while I changed the last name to my husband s last name 5 The best question is I miss them by the way could you tell me about your family Teodora This question is great because I naturally yield this question to 6 The worst question is do you always have breakfast here in the cantina This question is worst because it was kind of impolite and I didn t notice that Samuel s family was too poor to afford breakfast And he answered that we poor people only have coffee in the morning unlike others 7 I went to the church and checked the baptism record Tomas Barro s age as of 2012 would be 52 Section 4 Social and Political Organization 1 Juan Jefe Juan Jefe is the president of the village as well as a farmer His wife manages the cantina and a store Their household is a two storey house The evidence above manifests political and financial power of Juan Jefe 2 Luis Curandero He is the curer in the village and many people ask him for help and he also owns a milpa maize field Their house is located in a beautiful environment and lokks expensive 3 Eduardo Jefe he farms and his family runs a store as well as does some weaving so they are financially strong Eduardo s brother is the president so their family s politics position is not bad 4 Tomas Marros He is a potter but he is a little bit old Therefore he must has some reputation around the village 5 Milpero Juan Milpero is a good farmer and his wife weaves to earn money They live in a hut but it is big 6 Mendez Only Pablo Mendez the household head is farming while his wife is doing things around the house so their financial income is limited 7 Samuel Pescadero They have to use fishes to exchange the coffee in cantina As fish sellers and basket makers their family only owns a little hut which looks ready to collapse
