If you can not make the times above or the times of the TA please let me know and we’ll set up a different time.Course Description: The goal of this course is for the student to be able to understand the important measurements used to evaluate the overall economy, how the overall economy works and what policies, if any the government should take to assist in the improvement of the economy. We begin with a review of some fundamental principles of economics and then learn some of the important measurements used in the evaluation of the economy such as GDP, inflation, unemployment and deficits. We then develop models which will assist us in understanding how the aggregate economy works and what factors lead to problems in the overall economic situation. Lastly we explore what role the government should play in stabilizing the economy. We will also spend a lot of time throughout the semester exploring the distinction between market and government allocation of resources and explore when each ofText : Economics Today: The Macro View, by Roger LeRoy Miller, 17h edition (you do not needto purchase this book since you will have access to an e-book when you buy MyEconLab) ) (However some students may prefer to have the traditional book but it’s up to you.)Purchase Options: 1. You can buy MyEconLab and the e-book. If you buy this online it will be cheaperthan if you buy it at the bookstore.2. You can also buy MyEconlab without the e-book. This may be useful for those who would rather buy a used hard-copy of the book3. You can buy myeconlab wrapped with the printed text book at the bookstore. 4.Information on how to register can be found under course information.MyEconLabYou will be assigned homework and quizzes for each chapter. Your Myeconlab grade will be 15% of your total grade. All of this will come from your quiz grades. Homeworks –You are allowed to do the homework as many times as you can. However, these will not be included in your grade. However, the quizzes are very similar to the quizzes!!! So I highly recommend that you do the homework first!!! It is very important that when doing the homework that you learn it and not just do it to get it right. There are lots of learning aides available to help you complete the homework. Quizzes- You will only get one try on the quiz and you will only get 45 minutes to complete it! In addition, the learning tools will be turned off. So the idea is for you to prove that you learned the material when you did the homework. I will drop 2 quizzes. Additional Study tools: There are many study tools available for you in addition to the onesavailable to help you with your homework. 1. Chapter Resources Student Lecture NotesPrint out the Student Lecture Notes file for a quick reference to your instructor's lecture. View Student Lecture Notes – the notes that I will be using in class will be quite different than these but theyCan still be an additional resourceStudy Guide – This is a great resource! The TAs will go over the multiple choice questions in recitation.This is a chapter summary and learning tips, read discussions of chapter features, and work additional applications and exercises. View Study GuideAnimation – this is pretty cool!Watch animated versions of key figures from the textbook. View AnimationsWeb LinksVisit websites mentioned in the textbook and used by the end-of-chapter exercises. View Web LinksComplete Pearson eTextRead this chapter of the textbook online. View the Complete Pearson eText2. Study Plan – This is an additional place for more practice! The questions are similar to those from the homework. I think that the best time to work on this is before the exams although you can certainly work on them Before you try the homework as well. However, your work will not count towards your course grade. UB Learns - Please make sure to check UB learns regularly for announcements, reminders, e-mails, and other issues regarding the course.Lecture: I will be teaching in a way that emphasizes understanding the material. The best wayto learn the material is to read the book before coming to class and then filling in the notes inlecture. Notes: Notes will be posted on UBlearns before class. You should print them out beforecoming to class. It is very important that you try to learn the material when you are writing thenotes down. There is no point coming to class if all you are going to do is copy what I writedown. You can get the notes from the book as well.It is very important that you understand the material! If you try to learn the material while I’mteaching it this will make your life much easier!Recitation: Although recitation will not be required it is necessary that you remain registered forit. During recitation the T.A. will go over any questions regarding Aplia and additional multiplechoice questions that will be helpful to review for the midterm. You are welcome to go to any ofthe available recitations. You will be allowed to drop your lowest grade from the three exams. If you miss an exam this will be the exam that you drop. Absolutely no make up exams will be given. However, even if you do decide to not take an exam it is important to note that you must still learn the exam as the final will be cumulative!!
