This course will not satisfy graduation requirements. This course is required if testing indicates a need. Struve, & Janet Mazzarella Student Access Kit for MyMathLab (included with textbook) Graphing Calculator TI-83, TI-83 Plus, TI-84 Plus, or TI-84 Plus Silver Edition Note-taking materials of your choice Attendance/Absence/Tardy/Behavior Policies Note: TTAP has its own attendance policy. Make sure you know the requirements of the program. The following policy is the attendance policy for this course. There is a difference. Make sure you know what is expected of you in terms of the program and for each of your classes.Any student who misses more than five class sessions will be dropped (on the sixth absence) from the class with a grade of “X” if the student has a passing grade average at that time. If the student is failing, the student will be assigned a grade of “F”. An absence is defined as failing to attend class for any reason, missing more than 10 minutes of class, or leaving class without the instructor’s prior approval. Do not ask to leave class for any reason. Take care of all personal business before you arrive. If you feel sick, please leave the classroom, but do not return to class. This is too much of an interruption. If you must leave and this results in missing more than 10 minutes of class, you will be counted absent. Every student is required to attend class with a textbook, graphing calculator, and note-taking materials. Any student who arrives for class without all required materials will be dismissed from class. A student who is dismissed for not bringing the required materials to class will be counted absent. If you choose to sleep in class, expect to be dismissed. A student who is dismissed for sleeping will be counted absent. A student who is not actively participating in class by paying attention and taking notes will be dismissed from class. This includes texting. A student who is dismissed from class for not participating or for texting will be counted absent. A student who is in anyway disruptive in class will be dismissed. A student who is dismissed for disruptive behavior will not be welcomed back to class and will be dropped from the class immediately regardless of the number of absences the student has at that time. Additionally, a student accrues an absence each time he or she accumulates a total of three tardies. Tardies are defined by TTAP policy. You are expected to not only show up for class on time but also arrive ready to learn and actively participate in learning/practicing the math concepts each day. If you are enrolled in this developmental class due to TSI requirements, being dropped from this class may result in your being completely withdrawn from college. Be sure to know the rules as they apply to you. If you know in advance that you will miss class, it is always polite to notify your professor beforehand. Let me know what steps you will take to get the notes missed that day in class. Attendance is vital. If you must be absent, realize that acquiring the class notes is your responsibility. I am happy to answer any questions you have over any math topic, but I am not your personal lecturer if you must miss class. Roll will be checked at each class meeting via a TTAP sign-in sheet. It is the YOUR responsibility to sign in. Make sure that you sign in for each class. Do not leave class without signing in. There are no excused absences. Come to class prepared to learn, and be on time. Remember: to be on time is to be early. Assignment Policy 20% of your final average is based on homework problems worked online via MyMathLab. Purchase your textbook immediately and use the Student Access Kit (bundled with your textbook) to register for this class online. If you were enrolled in a different math class last semester that used MyMathLab, you do need a new packet if you used a different textbook. You do not need a new packet if you are repeating this course using the same textbook. You should add this new course on the MyPearson page of CourseCompass. The problems in the online assignments on MyMathLab are chosen as representative of the basic concepts presented in the sections. Completing only the online assignments will not fully prepare you for the tests. Theywill merely begin your practice of the concepts. An additional assignment will be given for each section from the textbook exercises. The textbook exercises will not be taken up or graded. After completing the online homework for a grade, you should work the textbook problems for a more complete understanding and further practice of the topics in each section. I will assign odd-numbered problems. The answers to the odd-numbered problems can be found at the back of your textbook or in MyMathLab following this path: eBook…(scroll to bottom of page)…Answers to Selected Exercises. The textbook assignment for each section is listed on a separate document that will be distributed in class. Online Homework The homework assignments on MyMathLab can be revisited as many times as you like as long as the deadline for that assignment has not passed. If you miss a question, please redo that question until you succeed. You should settle for nothing less than 100% on each online homework assignment. The deadline for each homework assignment is noted on the class calendar. You will no longer have access to those
