Stowe 1Pamela StoweMegan KeatonEnglish 111-1110 Jul. 2013 Nationwide ObesityIn today’s nation obesity is on the rise. Many unhealthy people ranging from adolescents, teens, young adults and even the elderly are facing this issue on a daily basis. Studies completed long ago suggest a lack of energy causes obesity. Newer studies, however, have shown more proof for the cause of obesity and where it originates. I have thoroughly explored the inducementof obesity during this research essay. I have researched sound evidence that factors into obesity problems. Four causes of obesity arise from medicine, ancestral environment, overeating, and sleep deprivation. Medication is a cause of iatrogenic obesity. Drugs such as prednisone has been known to contribute to this drug induced type of obesity. “Many different drugs – including contraceptives, steroid hormones, diabetes drugs, some antidepressants, and blood pressure drugs can cause weight gain. Use of these drugs is on the uprising” (Keith). Contraceptives for over a decade now have been proven to cause side effects of weight gain to severe obesity. Depo Provera has been widely known for causing obesity in women. Steroid hormones will make the body gain weight and so will some medications taken for lupus. Genetic heritage of African Americans, Caucasians and Chinese individuals each has a contingency for obesity. However, the Chinese are less likely to become obese before the two previously stated nationalities. If these nationalities were listed from least to greatest, Caucasianswould be next in line, while African Americans would be third. “Ancestor’s environment; someStowe 2influences may go back two generations. Environmental changes that made a grandparent obese may ‘through a featly driven positive feedback loop’ visit obesity on the children” (Keith). Every nationality has a specific genetic make over. Depending on the person, and their history, a gene with the obesity trait may be carried by someone in that generation. Every generation is faced with an atmosphere that may cause health issues with the human body. The environment is constantly experiencing transformations. Environmental changes may have affected our ancestors up to four decades ago. The fetal stage is most likely when the environment would have exposed the fetus to the interchange. Sleep deprivation is a producer of obesity. Loss of sleep for extensive periods of time willdeteriorate ones ability to function normally. Sleep debt effects individuals’ health by bringing disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea. Consequences from these disorders will bestow complications upon the body such as obesity. “Obesity is fairly common among people with sleep apnea. A complicated relationship exists between weight and sleep apnea: sleep apnea makes the weight problem worse, and vice versa. Losing weight usually helps the sleep apnea, but people often cannot lose weight until after the sleep apnea has been treated” (Pascualy and Soest). Not obtaining the proper amount of rest has been linked to obesity. When idea weight is not correct and the body is obese then it may struggle with sleep apnea. Older studies have spoken about a lack of energy contributing to obesity. Therefore, a restless body presents a sluggish body and in turn will promote a lack of energy Indulging on inviting foods can be tempting for individuals because it is so easy to do. There is an innumerable amount of ways to access these goodies. With so many treats to choose from it is impossible to stay on the straight and narrow path of healthy eating. Someone who isStowe 3not of idea weight may continue to over eat for various reasons. For example, an individual may be stressed out, may skip meals or may eat very large portions of food. problems of obesity and overeating In my experience, there are significant differences inthe presentation of patients depending on whether they have suffered their condition for ashorter period or long term and thereby differences in the clinical considerations and treatment direction. The following is a summary of these differences: 1. Shorter-term obesity or reactive overeating and weight gain (Leach). Depression, stress, and skipped meals are colossal contributors to overeating which leads to obesity. People often seek comfort and happiness in their lives. The brain needs to be trained to eat healthy, if not; individuals will overeat just to make themselves feel better. For Instance, when an imbalance in the brain occurs then bad eating habits will accumulate and healthy eating habits will diminish. It is unfortunate that the human body overeats due to psychological issues in the brain. Clinical results show that sufferers, who have agonized, for longer continuances have a more challenging time recovering from obesity if it has been contributed by overeating.Obesity affects millions of people nationwide and is a serious condition that should not be taken lightly. Individuals whom are obese bestow sickness and disease such as diabetes, sleep apnea or high blood pressure upon themselves. The general public doesn’t appear to be too concerned with their health or their children’s health. Overweight children become tired quicker than children of average weight. Obese children may need medication earlier in life than their peers of average weight because of the unhealthy lifestyle. Michelle Obama has been campaigning about obesity. She is nationally making parents and children aware of obesity by providing programs that help individuals to learn and sustain healthy life styles and better foodStowe 4choices. Websites such as Let’s Move and ChooseMyPlate.gov are accessible so determined parents or children may take action. Medicine is helpful but it isn’t always necessary. Next time something ails the body check the side effects to see if it contributes to obesity. Several natural remedies may help without contributing to any side effects. Overeating may be so severe that certain individuals may need special treatment. Services may be suggested by dietitian, family doctors or weight loss clinics. Doctors or dietitians may provide tips to eating well, risk factors or address the BMI. Weight loss clinics likeWeight Watchers or Jenny Craig are known for helping clients with custom meal plans, consultation and fitness programs. Exercising is one assured way to lose weight. Walking is the
