Lane CervantesPrior to the discussion, I had some misgivings about the thesis put forth by Szasz. I did however believe that the issue he discusses in his paper is rather important and I have not ever heard any-one address it to my satisfaction. So, I was inclined to agree with his conclusion however radical it may be. The discussion seemed to further verify to me that Szasz’s argument may hold water because none of the objections that were brought forth refuted his argument sufficiently. I think the term “problems in living” is quite useful because it allows us to be able to acknowledge that there is indeed a problem in need of fixing without being too presumptive about what the exact causes of the problem are.
