Assignment: Classroom Observation 2Take in all of the information you can. Take notes so that you will be able to describe in some detail what you observed. This observation assignment should be submitted on blackboard 48 hours after you observe. It is expected that all observations be well-written using complete sentences and proper grammar.Your answers should be thorough and show depth of thought and careful observation.Date of observation: ___March 23, 2016_____ Time of observation: From _10:10am_ to_11:40am_Subject: __Kahoot, Quiz Review______ Teacher: __Mrs._Marvel________1) Describe the lesson: What was the big idea? If you can break the lesson down into parts, please do so. How much time was spent on each part? The students were reviewing quadratic functions. Mrs. Marvel created a quiz on thewebsite “Kahoot.com”. The site is a creative way of quizzing students, because it letsthem interact through technology and it also helps the teacher see what percentage ofthe class misses a problem AND it tells them which answer they chose to help withmisconceptions. This game went on for the entire period. A question would appear, thestudents would answer it within the time limit, and then Mrs. Marvel would explain theanswer and why the other answers were wrong. This was repeated throughout the game.“The Effective Teacher1. Addresses people by name.2. Says ‘please’ and ‘thank you.’3. Has a controlled, disarming smile.4. Is loving and caring, lovable and capable.” (p.77)Wong, H, & Wong, R. (2005). How to be an effective teacher the first days of school.Mountainview, CA: Harry K. Wong Publications, Inc.2) Describe how your teacher did or did not do any of the above actions. How did studentsreact?Ms. Marvel did a very good job of using the tools above. She was very consistent andthe students responded in a positive manner3) In the classroom of an effective teacher, students know what they are to learn and do,expectations are clearly stated. What were the objectives for today’s lesson? (please stateif these were posted, stated, or if you had to guess.) Classify each objective according toBloom’s Taxonomy. The objective written on the board was “We will solve quadratic equations”. I think thisfits under the “Applying: Using Information in another familiar situation” category inBloom’s Taxonomy.4) Describe the process your mentor used in questioning. (question first or name first? Waittime? etc.) How did students respond?Since it was a review, she asked questions through technology of Kahoot. The studentsresponded fairly quickly to the review questions and then results were posted on theboard. When explaining answers, Marvel addressed the students by name and said“please” and “thank you” accordingly.5) Describe how the teacher chose to call on students. Who answered the questions? Howmany times did the same student answer? Were there students who never answered?Like before, all students answered at the same time through Kahoot. Individually, shecalled on those who raised their hand. As a result, not many students answered.6) List at LEAST 3 questions about the content that your mentor asked. Classify each questionas open or closed and classify according to Bloom’s Taxonomy level. All the questions on the review game were closed. When she was explaining answers, she would ask questions like, “What is…” and “Why does…do this”. She would oftensay, “How could we do this…” These questions were all open. I think this is classifiedunder the “Understanding: Explaining ideas or concepts” category of Bloom’sTaxonomy.7) Describe 3 aspects of the class that impressed you in a positive way.- The students’ behavior; they were very cooperative.- The flow of the class; Ms. Marvel kept things smooth and going on time.- The bell didn’t dismiss the students, Ms. Marvel did8) Were there any aspects of the class that concern you as you prepare to teach the group? As said before, nothing concerned me. I loved the kids after our first three visits and I amexcited for our Teach
